The most-printed print in our range isn't a tiger, a leopard, or a tropical palm. It's a stripe.
Stripes are the quiet ones. The bag you reach for when everything else in your outfit is doing something. The piece that doesn't ask to be photographed but somehow always is. We've made stripes in cotton, in velvet, in nine colourways, across totes and weekenders and travel sets and a cushion — and they outsell most of what we make.
This is a field guide to why we keep coming back to them.

Where stripes come from
Stripes are one of the few patterns that show up everywhere. Neapolitan beach awnings, Breton sailor shirts, Moroccan rugs, Rajasthani bandhej tonal weaves, Provençal market bags, even the canvas of Slim Aarons' poolside chairs — they all share the same DNA. A stripe is what happens when a fabric tells the truth about how it was made.
Our stripes draw from two traditions in particular.
The first is Italian coastal: the heavy cotton stripes you see strung above the Amalfi coast in summer, the canopy stripes of a Portofino terrace, the awning over a Cinque Terre osteria. Those stripes were never designed — they emerged from the practical reality of bolt-weaving heavy cotton in alternating dye lots. Function turned into a visual language. We borrowed the spacing and the slightly imperfect rhythm.
The second is Rajasthani tonal: in the workshops of Rajasthan where our bags are hand-block-printed, the tradition of layering soft tonal stripes onto natural cotton goes back centuries — sometimes printed with single blocks repeated by hand, sometimes resist-dyed before the weave. There's a quiet authority to a stripe printed by hand. It moves. The line is never perfectly straight. You can see where the maker's hand pressed harder.
The CYC stripe takes from both: Italian rhythm, Rajasthani hand-feel.

The CYC stripe family
We started with one stripe tote. Five years on, the stripes have grown into their own collection.
The Striped Cotton Tote is the original — a hand-block-printed cotton tote in nine colourways, from neutral Brown and White through to holiday-bright Orange and Blue. The most understated bag in our range, and the one that pairs hardest with everything loud in your wardrobe.
The Striped Velvet Tote takes the same stripe rhythm onto plush cotton velvet — the pile catches light differently across the stripe, so the tones shift as you move. Quiet luxury for everyday carry.
The Striped Cotton Weekender and The Striped Velvet Weekender carry the print onto carry-on size. The cotton for short trips that need to be washed; the velvet for the kind of weekend where the bag is part of the look.
The Striped Velvet Cushion is the home edit — the same stripes, on a 40 × 40 cm cushion cover, hidden zip, plush velvet, made to layer with linen sofas and quiet rooms.
The Gold and Beige Striped Travel Set is three coordinated cotton stripe pouches, plastic-lined, the wash-bag-as-outfit answer.

Why stripes work
A few things to know if you're choosing your first one.
Stripes lengthen a silhouette. Vertical stripes elongate; horizontal stripes broaden. Most of our stripes are horizontal-on-the-tote and vertical-on-the-weekender — coincidence or intention, depending on who you ask.
Stripes pair with almost everything. A patterned tote demands a quiet outfit. A neutral stripe lets the rest of your wardrobe do the work. Brown and White, Navy and Black, Gold — these are wardrobe-staple stripes.
Stripes hold up. Hand-block-printed onto durable cotton, quilted, machine-washable. The colour ages with use, never disappearing — just softening. The cotton softens too. Yours will look better at year five than at year one.
Stripes carry a story. You'll pass a Mediterranean awning, a Breton shirt, a Rajasthani textile market, and you'll see the bag's family. There's something quiet and good about owning an object that belongs to that lineage.

How we make ours
The cotton is woven locally, the dyes are mixed in small batches, the stamps are carved from wood. Slight variation in stripe alignment between bags is the signature of real handcraft, not a flaw — it's how you can tell yours from a machine-printed copy.

Where to start
If it's your first stripe, start with The Striped Cotton Tote in a neutral colourway — Brown and White or Gold pair with everything. If you're after a holiday bag, the Cotton Weekender in a brighter stripe is the carry-on we'd take. If you want a velvet hand-feel, the Striped Velvet Tote is the everyday companion.
